Bangalore is home to many leading Indian businesses, and all major technology players. It is also home to over 80,000 ragpickers, who struggle to make a living every day.

Space Global has founded ‘Nele’ – a home for the underprivileged that promotes learning, self-esteem and personal achievement among these children. Nele gives several children a roof above their heads and helps them grow, while fostering a healthy set of values among them.

The two Nele homes – Narendra Nele for boys, and Nivedita Nele for girls – not only provide food and shelter, but also education and health supervision. In addition to formal education, the children are trained
in arts, crafts, and other skilled activities. Active counseling makes them aware of the consequences of smoking, alcoholism and drugs, and impresses upon them the importance of family life.

Nele aims to make these children self-dependent in the future, and identifies means for them to gain an alternative livelihood.

Friends of Tribals Society (FTS) aims to banish illiteracy from the face of tribal India. Founded in 1989, it provides opportunity for tribal people to realise their true potential, and gain social and economic independence.

To this end, Space Global supports the Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation, an NGO of FTS concerned with rural and tribal education. As part of their programme to educate India, Space Global has adopted many tribal villages across the country.

Ekal Vidyalaya aims to set up 100,000 Ekal Vidyalayas in remote tribal areas by 2011, provide them with health and development education, and implement a low-cost method of result-oriented, non-formal education with the involvement of the local Gram Samiti.
